Mona and Hassan are twins. They arrived at the centre April 29th in 2008

They were 3 months and 5 days old. They were found in Maadi, Road 9, bundled up in a baby bag. They were so dirty, even the nurses at the hospital struggled to get them completely clean.  They had spent the whole night out on the street, they were starving.

Luckily, they were not suffering from any health problems and they were moving normally. Hassan is the stronger twin, Mona has a beautiful smile. They are popular in the centre as they are twins and Mona's smile charms everyone, even when she cries it is almost as if she is still smiling.

Shiren arrived at the centre September 9th 2008

She was 7 months and 26 days old. She was founds near the El Hofa mosque.
One day, after 4 months and 7 days of living in the centre, Shiren's mother came to see her, but then refused to take the baby back to live with her and her sister. However, the mother continued to visit Shiren at the centre. Every time her mother arrived, Shiren was very happy and lively, but when she left again, the baby would be sad again, unwell and depressed.

The director of the centre asked the mother many times to try to organize her current lifestyle so that she would be able to take Shiren back with her. Shiren's mother was divorced from her first husband and then had had an affair which had resulted in her becoming pregnant with Shiren. She then remarried but her new husband refused to accept Shiren, which was why she abandoned her child.
Today, Shiren is quite aggressive towards other children, she has a lot of anger in her. She needs a lot of attention and cries often.  She is 1 year and 9 months old. And following the request of the director, the mother and her sister do not come to visit anymore.

Wahed was brought to the centre September 26th 2007

When he first arrived he was frightened of these unknown surroundings and of all these new faces. Nowadays, he knows everyone and fits in well, but he does remain slightly fearful, very attached to his minder and cries easily she goes away. He was aged 1 year and 25days when he first arrived. He was very weak and thin, he was not able to move like the other children and just lay down all day long.

His father had sent a message saying he was very poor, that he was not able to feed and look after his son, that he did realize that his child had problems but that he didn't have the money to do anything about it, and he would rather leave him and hope that his son would be more fortunate than if he stayed with his father. FACE has created a programme specially for Wahed, and, happily, it has worked, Wahed is very well, he can walk, he plays, he eats well, he can even say his child minder's name. He is now 2 years and 1 month old.
