Orphanages

In 2005, FACE employed a Moroccan-Belgian professional who followed the Loczy training programme at  'Home Reine Astrid' and was then able to train the Egyptian paediatric nurses at the FACE orphanages of Hegazy and Zeitoun. In the same year, FACE signed a contract with the National Office of Childhood.

In 2006, a woman employed by FACE and trained in the new methodology took over responsibility for training at the orphanages of Zeitoun, Maadi and Hegazy until the end of 2008, before handing over to a new trainer specialised in this field.

Since the middle of 2007, FACE has benefited enormously from a volunteer, Belgian trainer specialised in the field for 15 years, who offers her expertise and skills to the Training Department of FACE. She has implemented a training programme specially designed for and aimed at the paediatric nurses.

In 2009,  a new training programme for the directors was set up. A new trainer, specialised in the creation and development of new tools will also join FACE in 2009.

In June 2009, following a request from the Egyptian Ministry of Social Affairs, a contract with the Egyptian government was signed, to set up FACE training in government orphanages by establishing a TOT (Trainer of Trainers) programme with Ministry trainers.

Street Children

In April 2007, FACE was approached by the National Council of Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) to set up a project for the street children of Cairo. The NCCM provided a building in the El Salam area, which was to become Drop-In Center (DIC) and will become a Residential shelter.

FACE spent 1 year renovating the building and above all developing strategies by assessing the situation and needs of the street children, by recruiting and training staff and thus assessing the equipment needs and any possible partnerships.

Phase 1 : Outreach
(Septembre 2007 to date)

Outreach is the starting point of the project and comprises an important element which remains constant throughout the project. This is a trained team of social workers and doctors who go out onto the streets to meet the children and to establish the first contact with them, in order to develop, little by little, a relationship of trust, using non-intrusive methods. This method establishes the foundations by developing the relationship with the children necessary for the remainder of the project.

Phase 2 : Drop-In Center (DIC)

The second phase of the project was the opeining of the Drop-In Center in January 2009. It is a day center, offering more and more activities with more and more structure. This center fills the gap between life on the streets and life in the center and prepares the children and the team for the Residential Center.

Phase 3 : Residential Center

The Residential Center will open at the end of 2009. The children will be prepared for it with the help of the social workers and will receive full time education or will follow a professional training course, depending on their age.

Phase 4 : Professional Training

A detailed study of the needs of the employment market in Cairo and training foor the children is almost complete.
